We use Matrix for chat. It is a defederated open-source chat protocol, allowing everyone to join and host their own servers. If you haven’t used it before, Element is likely to be the easiest client to get going.

We have a Matrix space, with rooms inside of it, with address #voidfire:matrix.org.
